Details for the First Annual Mark Sandman Concert have been finalized for Sunday (July
25) in Cambridge, Mass. featuring Morphine's Dana Colley and Billy Conway on the bill.
Slated for Central Square on Brookline St., the two-hour afternoon show will include
performances from many of the late Sandman's musical peers. More acts may be added, but
confirmed so far are: Treat Her Right (Sandman's previous band), Either/Orchestra, Mr.
Airplane Man, Superhero hi-Jinx, the Ray Corvair Trio, Moveable Bubble, Wooden Leg/Pale
Brothers, Dinty and the Children, and Hypnosonics Festival Ensemble.
Some of the other musicians included here are ex-Presidents of
the United States of America leader Chris Ballew and Dickie Barrett of the Mighty
Mighty Bosstones. The complete lineups are listed below.
In addition to the outdoor show, which will run from 3-6 p.m., the nearby Middle East
-- which is co-producing the event -- will be open for friends and fans to share their
thoughts on Sandman. There will also be a video collage shown upstairs at the club showing
footage from Sandman's career.
The show will benefit the Mark Sandman Music Education Fund. Those attending are asked
to make a donation to the fund, in lieu of the organizers charging for tickets. In the
event of rain, the show will be rescheduled for Aug. 1.
Sandman died at the age of 46 of a heart attack while onstage in Palestrina, Italy on
July 3 (allstar, July 6).
